River North Chicago Dance Company is a ten-year-old contemporary dance company that has been hailed by Dance Magazine as “Chicago’s next big export.” Founded in 1989 by four visionary dancer/choreographers, the Company has grown from a local, grass roots dance troupe to a professional touring company that has performed in seventeen states. Audiences of all ages are captivated by River North’s theatrical, accessible style, which appeals to the first time attendee as well as the most seasoned dance aficionado. The Company has produced two television performance documentaries: Reality of A Dreamer and River North Rising. In addition to its national presence as a performing ensemble, the River North Chicago has a unique and effective series of young audience and community residency activities. The Company performs for student and family audiences, holds master classes, conducts workshops and offers “meet the artists” activities. Street Beat – Dance Through the Decades, a lecture demonstration program, has educated and entertained children in grades K-12 throughout the country. The Company also holds an annual summer workshop to train young dancers and give them the opportunity to work with River North company members.
