Cause Description:
We are a local Council of an international organization formed in 1833 to relieve the suffering of individuals through person to person contact, referral or direct aid. We operate from within 6 local Catholic Parishes and two resource centers which serve homeless and migrant families. We operate three thrift stores to recycle clothing and household goods and make these materials available at little or no cost to poor families. All profits from these operations are distributed to poor families locally or are used to initiate other community service projects. All service providers are volunteers as well as the Board of Directors. In the United States there are about 65,000 other members volunteering in similar groups. The Society distributes over $100 million in direct aid to the poor annually. HELP US HELP OTHERS
