South Carolina Awareness and Rescue for Equines (S.C.A.R.E., Inc.), based in Chapin, SC, has officially received recognition from the state as a non-profit organization. The group's mission is to work with Humane Society and law enforcement offices around the state to provide assistance for abandoned, abused, unwanted, found, or neglected horses. . The growing "S.C.A.R.E. Network" will provide temporary and/or long term medical care, food, and shelter to horses in need of such care and will work to place these horses in loving homes where they can lead productive lives. After sufficient rehabilitation and assessment of the horses condition and ongoing needs, S.C.A.R.E. will search for a permanent adoptive home for the horse.
